RAF runs out in a few weeks, so I thought I’d share some of my learnings on the other classes.
I hate warriors. Seriously hate. I don’t know what any of you warriors out there see in this class. It’s like throwing tic tacs at a piece of cardboard. It’s amusing for a little while, but once you’ve run out of “[Name here] SMASH!” jokes (and tic tacs), there’s just nothing left there.
I firmly believe that anyone who enjoys playing a warrior has been shot in the head with a nailgun. Either that or had their cerebellum surgically removed at puberty.
Rogues are AWESOME. Except that I absolutely despise playing one in a group. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN’T STEALTH PAST HERE?! DAMNIT, LEARN TO PLAY, NOOB! I’d be more than happy if I never, ever encountered another player when I’m roguering it up. Except to kill them.
Stunlocking is fun. 🙂
Warlocks are the most boring class ever. Even warriors have that weird little charm at first. Warlocks… nah. It feels like a cross between a hunter and a mage, but with all the awesome of both of those classes stripped away, leaving behind an empty husk of total boredom.
And then crammed chock full of the crappiest crap that ever crapped.
I’ve stated this before. Hunters are an extremely fun class. Second only to mages, at least until the rogue came along. They’re tied for second now. Beastmaster forever, Marksman can go to hell, Survival is neat in theory though boring as hell.
Screw Replenishment and Trueshot Aura, I have a GORILLA. And you know what I called it? GET OUT OF THE WAY! HAHAHA! I find it extremely difficult to think of a death worse than being beaten to death by a gorilla.
I mean, really. Think about. You got killed by a Donkey Kong joke, and your last smell is the scent of fresh bananas mixed in with your own blood. The last thing you hear is the sounds of your bones cracking and “ooh ooh ooh”.
Death Knights are awesome fun to play in PvP. Soloing? Grouping? Ehh… pass. Arathi Basin forever and ever? Where do I sign up?
Paladins are… brace yourself… fun. I have no idea why, I even like healing as a Paladin. Retribution kicks ass. It’s like playing a rogue, if I swapped every trace of subtlety and exchanged it for face smashing.
Ret Paladins: sharing concave skulls with the badguys since 2004.
Priests… are strange. I don’t like solo play as a priest. To me, it feels like a horribly gimped mage. The loss of polymorph and frost nova… gah. Do not want. Fun to play in group situations, though, especially in a DPS role. I can lose myself for hours into spell rotations.
Healing is mind meltingly stupid, though. As a Paladin, you’ve got three buttons. Holy Light, Flash of Light, and Really Flash of Light. It isn’t hard to pick one and use that for healing.
As a priest… SO MANY BUTTONS. Do I Flash Heal? Greater Heal? Prayer of Healing? Healing of Prayer? Heal of Healing? I JUST DON’T KNOW AUGH! /respec Shadow.
Shaman… Gah. I really like the shaman class. I love the talent trees, I love how they look, I love the theory and lore behind them. But I can’t play them. I try so very hard to play one, but… I just can’t do it. It doesn’t take too long before the whole experience just becomes “meh” and I logout to do something else.
If there’s one class I’d really like to play, it’s the shaman.
Druids fall into the same category. Something that is theoretically awesome, looks awesome, should play awesome… but I just can’t play it. I try… and fail.
And so they wallow forever, ignored.
For me, until the nerf kicks in, playing a resto druid in a group kinda goes like “BUAH HAHAHAHAHA WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH WILD GROWTH”
I could imagine the same thing goes for priest and circle of healing. Of course I’m kidding somewhat, but now that I’m overgeared for the instances that I’m running at my level, I can spam any combination of spells and come out alright.
Krizzlybear – Ever try that in AV? It’s hilarious. We were in this big war of attrition at Stonehearth for like a half hour, I just ran around in circles spamming Wild Growth. We ended up winning (narrowly).
Rip – Druids are weird, it’s super fun for me to play one as healy in a group but solo has been really hard. On the other hand, resto-HoT-spam + bear form is really funny because even though it takes you approximately three months to kill anything, you basically can’t die.
Warriors are a lot of fun to play if you are a tank at end game. Otherwise, they can be teh suck. This comes from someone who has a main for a warrior who was leveled pre BC when they were uber suck to level. I love my Resto Druid, but I had to spec him balance to start leveling again. Love my Pally, but have never tried out prot. Warlocks were fun in PVP. I imagine they suck now with all the burst damage. I could never get into the mage, priest or shaman playstyle and have erased every one I ever made.
Well that pretty much sums up why my lock is still 19 when he was the second toon I ever created. Oh and my warrior is only 27… kinda the same thing. All the other classes are 60-70’s. My mistress right now is my Elemental Shaman… SOOO MUCH FUN!!! LIGHTNING BLAM DIEEEEEEEE…erm where was I?
I recently specced out my priest as Discipline, and I find that I love to shoot pewpewpew bolts of healing at my friends. It’s almost like playing a caster class! :p
Yea, I love my priest alt. He’s holy of course, and I love having all of those buttons (options which can save a raid sometimes!)
I also have a alt Paladin as well, prot of course.
That way I can be all around usefull=
DPS, Heals, and AOE tank!
The first character I leveled was a warrior, at the time I really enjoyed it. Rushing into battle knowing that there was no escape, it was either I killed what I was fighting or it killed me.
Now after taking my mage to 80 I can say I’d never be able to play a warrior again. I also agree that the rogue is a close second when it comes to fun, there is something special about sneaking around with no one seeing you, picking your fights and getting away when you want to.
Pretty much full agreement on the Warrior. Even though he was my 2nd character to 60 (pre-TBC), he was my 3rd to 70 … and will likely never see the other side of 71.
My Warlock was my main raider for the pre-TBC years. And I still find him enjoyable in a pure solo-ing / farming environment. I don’t know if he’ll ever raid at 80 (did some Kara / SSC / TK), but he’ll see some game time for sure.
My Mage is just fun. Well, so long as he’s Frost or Arcane (I love the new Arcane). How people play fire mages is beyond me.
My Druid is my newest character and will probably be my main healer at 80.
And that leaves my Paladin. He became my main in TBC. I loved healing and enjoyed tanking. Then the changes to Ret came along. The idea of EVER going back to Holy really doesn’t jive with me anymore. Glad I have that Druid. 🙂
Merry Christmas from one mage to another.
Keep up the posts, they are entertaining to read.
(poly) frostfire crit, fireblast crit, instant pyro. (fireblast) /spit & /guffaw spam. Mage dreams do come true.
Warriors have some of the most satisfying AOE in the game, until you run out of health and die. Seriously, arms with a big 2h is pretty darn fun. I just don’t see how the same person could enjoy a rogue, and a paladin, AND a HUNTER but think warlocks are boring? Um yeah, drain-tanking may not be your thing but if you think beating someone to death with a gorilla is funny, try fearing them and watching your felguard chase them down. . .
Personally I find hunters the most boring class in the game.
Awww man. No love for the priests? 😦 seriously .. I leveled as shadow — never thought healing would ever be fun .. was dps for SO long .. and then I kinda went healy and never looked back. The vast range of spells alone keeps it interesting. Nothing like needing to make a split second decision with not just 2 buttons to push, but 10. Very fun. Total pain in the ass to level though.
Warlocks? Coming from a priest .. warlocks were like revenge on every rogue that ever stun locked you to death. Oh yah lil rogue. Bam fear. Death Coil. Howel of terror. Dot ’em up and they can run but they can’t hide!!
Pallys = fun? since when. 3 button push leveling. Seal. Judgement. Autoattack. Wake me up when something interesting happens.
Shamans and druids = class in theory I’d *love* to play. Have tried playing. Can’t ever seem to get beyond level 25 with though.
Hunters = everything dies. I never do. If it weren’t for the ultracool sound my bow and arrow makes on every shot — I’d probably be bored after a while.
A warrior was my 2nd toon. I made it, when I kept having issues leveling my priest. It never got beyond level 10. It just wasn’t .. fun.
Mages? Mages are the suck to level. Sqooshier then priests in the beginning. And that’s saying ALOT. Going OOM without even a priest’s renew to keep you up while they keep wailing on you? LAME!!
I agree with Taut. Was a fire mage back in the vanilla days of WoW. Then arcane/frost became all the rage in TBC. I went with the crowd. Then, oh THEN, did fire (well, frostfire) make a huge comeback! I love me some fire! Hot streak really is the best thing since sliced cheese (to quote a famous mage we know)! Try AoE with dragon’s breath followed by a firestarter flamestrike. Yummy! Setting things on fire is FUN!
My first toon was a warrior. I’d rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon. Got her to 45 and started a mage once I saw how far back they could stand and make their own food/water and port to cities!
My priest was fun until I read the prescribed strat for leveling. Wand stuff? What?
Hunters, fun, but too easy.
Pallies look fun at the higher levels; it’s just getting there that seems to suck.
Paladins rock, Korenwolf was my first, a right pain to level solo thanks to the complete lack of a ranged pull. Suddenly finding a stack of mobs on your head leads to ‘interesting’ situations.
However from level 60 up he’s been running with his other half (and mine 😉 as a tankadin / healadin pair. There’s nothing like wading into 8-10 mobs, holding them all together while popping avengers shield, consecration etc etc and just watching them fall one by one with the healadin dealing with the incoming damage and completely failing to pull aggro 🙂
Stunlocking… I detest rogues in BGs as my Pally
My 2 mains are Priest and Mage…love em both! I also really enjoy tanking with my Prot Pally. My first 70 was a Warrior, but I abandoned him for the Pally. Tanking with a Pally is so much more fun. Prot Pallies are also alot of fun to level with…just pull everything in sight and slowly burn them all down. If you happen to lose a little health, a quick heal and pull 10 more mobs.
I had a 60 Hunter pre TBC but could just never get into it…it just seemed too easy.
Also have a 60+ Warlock, Druid, Shaman, Rogue.
By far, my favorite and most fun class to play is the Mage.
Love my warlock in solo play… but beyond that it is indeed el crapola atm. Conveniently I can blame blizzard for making it that way 😛
It takes a special mindset to succesfully play a warrior…
The first 30 or so levels are pure pain… but as you get more and more tricks it gets more and more complex and satisfying… i have 3 bars of stuff i use on a regular basis… i don’t think any other class can claim that…
Plus, getting the Whirlwind Weapon early is awesonely OP…
I do love my frost mage however… being able to freeze 10 mobs to the ground and then blizzard them to the ground, while frostbite keeps them in place is just pure awesome…
Fire may not be the most mana-efficient spec … but DAMN if it ISN’T THE MOST FUN!!
I’m a MAGE. I want to BLOW STUFF UP, LIGHT IT ON FIRE, THEN BLOW IT UP AGAIN. And I don’t want easy control of the situation. I have no hitpoints. That doesn’t make it bad. That makes it EXCITING!! GLASS CANNON FTW!!
Fire has really brought out my psychopathic inner arson.
Warriors are boring, Warlocks are no fun, and Shaman are … I don’t know. Just weird somehow. Never could quite feel comfortable with ’em. Druids I can do, but it does require a different mindset while you level, perhaps because all your tricks are scattered around in different forms, each using different power types.
a death worse than being killed by a gorilla?
meleed to death by a loltree.
It’s a tiny bit simpler for me. Range dps? Win! Melee dps, healing & tanking? Fail. That’s pretty much it. I’m really, really good with caster classes; mage and shadow priest, yes please! Everything else, not so much. So, someday when I start a druid (again) she’ll be a boomkin or nothing… and probably horde, too, because I really don’t like nelfs, even if my warrior (who I excell at failing at) is a nelf.
@ mwahaha
You know the old saying. “Walk softly and carry a big stick”.
So naturally, the step up from that would be to barely walk at all and be a big stick.
Blizzard’s next hero class will be the “Unarmed Old Man”, and it will be the most overpowered class in WoW.
Abilities like “Knowing Smile” will be feared by all.
