I originally thought Lady Gaga was some sort of internet meme, some random quasi-terrible 80’s artist resurrected from the dead for the lulz. Think Rick Astley, but chosen more for tripping balls David Bowie-ism than annoying catchy pop music.
Then I actually went and watched a Gaga video (poker face if you must know) and this basically confirmed the “random resurrected 80’s artist” theory I had going.
It took until stumbling across her wikipedia page for me to realize that she was this new big thing that didn’t even release an album until late 2008. Though it turns out she’s heavily inspired by David Bowie, so at least one theory survived an actual fact check.
To put it charitably, I’ve been completely unaware of this whole phenomenon. Those crazy kids these days and their shenanigans. Which makes me think… does this mean that I’m just so out of touch with popular society as a whole that I somehow managed to miss a sensation that literally tens of millions have been enjoying for over a year? Or does it mean that I’ve managed to become an old fogey before I’m even out of university?
What else have I missed? Was there a batman sequel I’ve been unaware of past The Dark Knight? When did people stop calling it global warming and start calling it climate change? What the hell is this “carbon footprint” thing people keep tossing about? Have there been any popular songs since “Hey Ya” by Outkast? What on earth is “Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog”?
People seem to shit a kidney when I say that last one, so it’s probably a good one.
What am I getting at here?
Well, Professor Putricide is hard, that’s what!
I kid, I kid. To be perfectly honest Rotface felt like the harder fight, going into it the first time.
We wiped so many times in our first night in the new wing. We had people dying to gasses, we had both flappy valkyrie heralds engaging at once, we pulled three large trash packs at once, reveled in our 35k+ AoE DPS, then all died. We pulled one of the huge pet dogs, went “OH MY GOD DECIMATE WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN” and then everyone was dead and there were zombies and so many zombies AAARCANE EXPLOOOOSHUUUUN.
And then it took us like fifteen wipes to get Rotface down for the first time. Even our second kill took until the third try to get it right.
If you haven’t killed it yet, Rotface is a lot like Gruul, in that the fight will be reminescent of your first Gruul kill. It’ll feel like barely controlled chaos, with several people already dead, and then the main tank bites it at 6%, a rogue starts evasion tanking, then another DPS dies to slime… finally the boss hits the dirt, and you’ve got like three people standing.
Festergut only took us a couple tries to get it down.
And then Putricide.
I think we’ve used up half our tries, maybe six out of the ten, but we’ve come fairly close. Our best attempt was… I believe roughly 10%, but then a tank died and Putricide got healed and there was much sadness.
The worst part… that 10% was, basically, right at the enrage timer. We beat Festergut’s enrage timer easily with five DPS, yet Putricide’s doesn’t even feel possible with that same five. (Arcane mage, a hunter, unholy DK, combat rogue and fury warrior if you must know.)
Which means something somewhere is being done wrong. But, then again, a high movement fight like this one is unfriendly at best towards arcane DPS, and with three melee and two ranged the adds take some time to get effective DPS on them and die, and of course this results in a lot of downtime for the melee too.
For those of you who follow my armory page, you may have noticed that my haste has risen to a mighty value of 1175. For those of you do not, my haste has risen to a mighty value of 1175.
Effectively, this means my arcane blast sits with a cast time under 1.8 seconds, it’s like 1.77 or something. I don’t really know the exact number. It’s really small, it casts so fast, uses up so much mana, and it’s glorious. So, so glorious.
Also I got Dragon Age, and sadly it is eating a lot of time that would ordinarily be eaten by WoW. Like twenty hours in two days clocked into Dragon Age a lot.
But it’s such a tasty game. There’s even a “random” option at the local brothel. If you must know, tranny dwarf and more. I hope you regret asking now.
Mages are so incredibly powerful in this game. Squishy, yes, but it hardly matters when you can destroy an entire room full of people with a wave of your hands, crowd control four or five things at once whilst pumping massive damage into them, then finish it off by healing yourself back to full.
It’s so nice to play a completely overpowered mage again.
Not like those weaksauce mages in WoW. Who are underpowered. And need buffs.
