Mabd asked about the ignite nerf last post. Which confuses me, because there isn’t one.
Or at least, I’m not aware of one. I’m not aware of a great many things, like my dentist appointment next week or that creepy guy who keeps leaving confetti in my mailbox.
There is this:
Ignite: The damage done by this talent no longer receives modifications from effects that increase or decrease damage done by a percentage.
But this doesn’t seem to actually effect anything. All the usualy percentage effects (such as, say Ferocious Inspiration or Ebon Plaguebringer) haven’t changed at all from live to PTR. External effects (such as Malygos’ sparklies) also have no behavioural difference.
There isn’t even any differences between how ignite behaves with resilience between live and PTR.
Frankly, this change doesn’t seem to effect anything players normally come across. It could mean something totally random and obscure (“Your damage against Undead mobs is increased by 5% while weilding a fishing rod on Tuesday the 13th”).
There was an issue, a long time ago, where resilience would cause ignite damage to “double dip”. Resilience would already cause any fire critical strikes to be reduced in effectiveness by, say, 10%, but because resilience also weakens DoT damage, the follow-up ignite would also be reduced.
This was fixed, of course, shortly after the change to resilience that allowed it to apply to DoTs, too.
Ignite doesn’t get modified by anything, usually.
Ebon Plaguebringer increases the damage of a fireball by 13%. If that fireball crits, the ignite damage is only ever going to be 40% of whatever the fireball’s damage was. That 13% more spell damage doesn’t effect ignite. Nothing is going to modify that damage.
Except, apparently, some ridiculously obscure percentile damage increase that cannot be found in rigorous testing in PvP, in raids, and against dummies.
There was also the whole Glyph of Living Bomb thing (LB can crit now, yay!) Maybe there was some conern about it causing hyper ignite munchies or beating the snot out of Hot Streak?
Allow me to assuage those concerns.
Glyph of Living Bomb allows the individual ticks to critically strike. However, those critical strikes are completely detached from nearly every single talent that functions from crits.
Living Bomb tick crits do not proc Hot Streak. They do not proc ignite. They do not consume, or contribute to, combustion charges. They do not refund mana according to Master of Elements.
They do benefit from 4pT7. They do proc “on crit” trinkets.
The only thing Glyph of LB does is increase the damage dealt by Living Bomb, and correspondingly increase the mage’s DPS.
So yes, Mabd, you’re just paranoid. Relax! Not everything is going to move into your home and refuse to bathe.
