I’m sorry to those who have a little spasm every time they see something like “O NOES!”. Really, I am. But english must be butchered IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE.
Thoughts from the arcanes about developer stuff. No wait-
If Arcane is overpowered at all, it is nowhere near to the level that Retribution was. Sorry. This isn’t a contest to see who can get the least or most nerfs.
Let me be the first to say: Ha Ha! Suck it, ya damn bastards! I like the sound of “if” and “nowhere near”. Obviously, this means that the arcane we mages currently enjoy in PvP is going to be around for a little while longer. And happily, this means when the nerf does come, it isn’t going be very hard. Not so much a nerf bat, maybe a nerf plushie.
The degree to which I am talking about changing Arcane Blast wouldn’t have been a couple of errors in the tooltip. It would have made the tooltip totally irrelevant for the spell, which would have confused a lot of players.
He (GC) is talking about the changes to ABlast they want to put into the game. This is interesting, to say the least. They aren’t thinking about a simple adjustment to the spell, maybe a little tweak here and there; they’re looking at a complete overhaul of the spell.
In other words, completely demolishing everything we thought we knew about ABlast and rebuilding that from the ground up. ABlast buffs, changing its strength based on mana availability, using fillers (or not!) depending how tight mana is, the current ABlastx2 rotation… all of it, completely irrelevant.
Awesome sauce. Probably, the change(s) to ABlast will totally change how arcane plays in both raids and PvP, likely fixing it’s “issues” in both. Possibly, it could completely bork everything up. Hopefully not the latter, but you never know… with SCIENCE.
We would like to give you a new rotation mostly because Arcane Blast doesn’t really work in PvE and because the PvP “rotation” seems to be: something -> something -> bored -> ARCANE BARRAGE!
Yes, that’s right. ARCANE BARRAGE! The only spell in the game that warrants all caps AND an exclamation mark from a developer in a serious conversation.
The assessment of how arcane works is eerily accurate. Basically, arcane suffers from three quarters of the tree being complete garbage for PvP. What little it does have that’s good, is really bloody good.
So what happens next? They know that ABlast doesn’t work in PvE, and the PvP skill set is kinda stupid. Awesome, but stupid. Like a kitten leaping for a desk, missing, and hitting the floor. You know it’s horrible, but you can’t help laughing anyways.
Yes. Arcane is a fuzzy kitten that can’t jump far enough.
Ignite sometimes munching charges has a lot to do with Internet lag. We just can’t always tell when one hit lands a split second before another one. We are still working on it though because it’s a cool talent.
“Hey! This isn’t arcane!” No it’s not. But it is Ignite. Ignite sets things on fire. Fire is SCIENCE.
It is a cool talent. Here’s hoping they manage to get it fixed so that it works roughly the same way it does now. The idea behind ignite is to… well ignite your foe. It would take a whole lot of fun out of the thing if all it did as tack on a bunch of extra damage. That would fix the problem, but it would be very boring.
Of course, going that route, you could change the name from “Ignite” to “Bonfire” or something.
Hey. You know what fire mages need? A talent called Bonfire. Bonfires are SCIENCE.
And just to complete the circle, one little tidbit on frost. This having to do with the PvE frost issue that I discussed mere days ago!
The two things standing in our way at the moment are: 1) Frost PvE dps is already high, so we would have to nerf it in order to build it back up through combos (which seems to be fine with a lot of Frost mages, but isn’t the highest priority ATM because the issue is “not interesting enough” instead of “broken”), and 2) Frost Bolt just does more damage than Ice Lance. If we buff Ice Lance, then PvP shatters are too high. So we need to rebuild the spells and talents to make the whole thing work — it’s not an easy fix. But it’s something we want to do.
I do believe that latter thing was almost word for word what I said before. Either this is a happy coincidence, GC reads my blog, GC reads my mind, I steal GCs thoughts while I’m asleep via SCIENCE, or I secretly AM GC.
All of these are equally disturbing notions.
Nonetheless. Frosties can look forward to a new, brighter, indeterminate future. Hazzah!
I get it, the whole “it’s not broken”, and so isn’t a high priority. I understand. Take your time. Fix the other mortals. We can wait.
We may be gods, but we are not vengeful. We are forgiving. We have veins of ice, and the patience of the glacier is on our side.
I’m still going to glare at you, but it’ll be a friendly, scientific glare.
SEE?! FRIENDLY!!
We hates that mage & his ARCANE BARRAGE! we does…
HAH! Those are some of the best post capturing pictures I have seen in a long time.
