Need some input from my loyal readers.
With Rash of the Itch King looming, the whole purpose to doing posts about current level PvP has largely become moot. Anything I write will become largely invalidated in a few months, thus largely defeating the purpose of writing a guide for it.
And even then, with all the talents and so forth being released early, a hefty chunk of said guides would need to be completely rewritten based on the new talents.
I mean, when I talk about druids, for example, I say that the only viable control you have over them is Counterspell. Any slows or snares (or polymorph) are largely useless.
However, Deep Freeze is perfectly viable against druids, and adds a whole new dimension to fighting that class.
It just seems largely pointless to waste my time, and y’alls time, by writing mass guides and strategies to stuff that will be rendered obsolete in a matter of weeks.
So I pose the question to you.
Is there a point?
Also related to this. A while back there was an idea for “Where the WoW is Euripedes?” involving me dancing on various corpses in various places in the world.
Again related to the release of LK, should I hold off on filming to get in Northrend locations as well, or film the locations that are currently available, and merely add in the Northrend content when it’s there?
It’d be neat if I could just decide these things and that’s that, but this blog is almost as much about you guys as it is about me.
Almost.
I still reserve the right to suddenly start blogging about science fiction movies.
PvP… probably just wait.. I am coming to terms with that regarding any skill/spec related things.. they will become irrelevant before WoLK hits us, and it will be a bit dicey talking about the new skills before they are bedded down.
Corpse dancing… now. You wont be looking back come WoLK, so let’s have one last look at the “old world”, you will be keeping us on our toes with new corpse dances come WoLK
Oh no !! not you too!!! … wow comunity seems “frozen in Northend” , all we are able to do is farm herbs [for level inscription of course] and make theories about talents and skills to come….
Helll I didnยดt want a beta key…I regret it now (if only to probe the never-see-live-as-it-is mirror image spell)..
science fiction movies until at least patch hits ? ๐
Personally I am still in a world where northrend doesn’t exist. If you already have a draft laying around for your pvp guide then by all means publish it. We’re not in Wrath yet… content patch has been announced for ‘soon’ which still doesn’t tell us when it will be.
And even if your guide will be somewhat dated it’ll still be a good starting point to pick up pvp even with new WotLK talents which will take a while to get used to as well.
I say use what’s here now, same for the movies… we’ll have at least a year to blog about WotLK before the next expansion comes out so lets give one final huzzah for what we have now.
At least that’s what I think… and I am desperately looking for stuff to read that doesn’t say WOTLK in big fat letters in front of it.
I must say I hate the current infatuation with Northrend. Even though I am in the beta outside of suggestions/feedback I’d rather not see anything about it in theory based blogs. I miss the pvp posts! It was nice seeing your guides, and even though they restated (in most cases) what I was doing already it was nice to know at least one other mage is out there doing the same things ๐
Focus on today, whilst yes the talents might be outdated the next patch, you must have always known that that was going to happen :P.
Blog for now. I miss discussion of the mage in pvp. Try new things! I’d love to see some posts based on mage/X class, the theory and even the application.
*shrugs* There is a point… I’ll read it!
Oh and please please please don’t blog about the new talents and specs. Please. Its a beta. Don’t get my hopes up only to have them dashed :(.
Blog now and Blog later… 2 posts 1 topic! and a third: “Whats changed in “.
Its still valid till its not. Go for it.
You are writing a blog about a GAME, my friend, a thing that is by its very nature transitory. If you were writing 2 years ago, that’s mostly invalidated as well! In 10 years non of this will matter, most likely.
So why bother at all, eh?
“Always looking to the future, that one is. Never his mind on where he is, what he is doing.”
Patches themselves don’t bother me, all that usually requires is a quick rewrite of this paragraph or a couple changed sentences here or there.
A couple patches ago, for example, I needed to update my guide to gearing for end game PvP, and really, the biggest change was adding the word “Merciless” in front of “Gladiator”, and changing a few wowhead links.
But this… a massive expansion of this level, with this level of changes, will warrant a complete rewrite, start to finish.
Hence my hesitation.
“Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Off I go, then, I gots me an article about rogues to write.
There is a point. We are playing Warcraft now, not future Warcraft.
Furthermore, I am unconvinced WotLK will arrive before January.
Furthermore, there is plenty of content without an expiration date. I’m brainstorming a list of Arathi Basin hiding places.
Furtherfurtherfurthermore, I have officially decided to start a WoW blog, just like you guys!!! There is nothibg there yet so I’m not linking it, but it will ROCK.
@ Euripedes – I almost used that line, as well. /lol
PvP isnt pointless now. Much of what defines success in PvP isnt your win/loss record for the week, or how many BG’s you won, but really, what you can learn between now and LK, before grinding takes precedence and arenas are put on hold for a few months.
If youre still working towards higher ratings, season 3 weapons/shoulders etc, then there’s definitely alot to learn, and even post 1800/1950, there’s a ton of experience and make note of.
Mage/Lock isnt a common combo in 2’s. Perhaps talk about your experiences there or uncommon strats. Or see what a new comp will bring, besides the weekly 10 games.
Yea, I agree with what most people said. Live in the now! If you enjoy writing the PvP posts you are doing, why not continue? You can write new ones later on in 6 months or whatever, when everyone is settled in at level 80.
It is hard to come up with guides at a time like this, when you know it won’t be much of a resource in a few months down the line… but it WILL be useful to someone now for sure, so do them a favour and keep it up! ๐
Since my blog more resembles a Fascist Police State, I won’t be taking any votes or comments ;P
Here’s what I’m doing: The only stuff I’ll talk about for the time being in regards to the xpac is stuff we *know* will be happening, i.e. Lava Burst, Hex, changes to how attack power is calculated, changes to totems.
Currently I’m working on talent breakdowns and I’m going to do them as is with no nod towards what’s changing in WotLK. The talents for that are in a state of flux anyway, and most likely will look entirely different on release.
New abilities, or tweaks to current ones, on the other hand, seem pretty set in stone (for example, the above changes to Shaman mechanics and changes to Paladin seal/judgement system and Blessings).
Rip,
I have read your blog for quite some time. I know how much time and effort you put into your guides. Your four volume guide to mages was fantastic.
I’d prefer you wait because I fear that if you do a completer PvP guide now you may not have the motivation/desire to do another one, at least not within a relevant time frame after the expansion.
The dancing movie can still be worked on, of course, with the current lands. It can be a relaxed schedule if you want to release it as a full length all-inclusive show, but the ond lands will already be in the can.
Maybe you can be caught dancing in hard-to-recognise areas in the mean time and post those small clips as trivia contests (i.e. “Post a comment guessing where I am.”)
The prize for guessing right can be a /ataboy.
GHOSTKID
Warhammer, anyone?
I just keep thinking of a deep freeze macro, kinda like the current shot rotation macro hunters use…
/cast deep freeze
/cast frost bolt
/get rid of annoying error messages
cuz deep frost is gonna be kinda like a hunters kill command…
So between frost bite and fingers of frost, whats gonna be the chance to freeze targets with frost bolt?

definately carry on with “where in the WoW” idea…sounds like fun and you can always add Itch King stuff to it!
as far as PvP …why not carry on…. its about all there is to do on my server …. all the guilds seemed to decide “no more raiding till the xpansion”
so its level lowbies (and gather herb!) or battlegrounds for me !
and I am with the pessimists …. the xpansion is not coming till at least Jan !
@Goratrix
We are both saying the expansion won’t come before January. What are your reasons for believing against the grain?
I’m with the ‘it ain’t real yet’ camp. As far as I am considered WotLK is slightly better than vapourware right now. I’m PVPing now in the current game as we know it and would like to learn more. In fact I’d say PVP guides are perfect for this period – as all I did just prior to the launch of TBC was PVP!
Corpse dancing is always FTW and should be engaged in asap imo.
