Remember Ritual of Refreshment? That spell that caused much seething and hatred in the mage community?
Remember how players attacked mages because we were cheapskates and refused to give free food to their sorry arses?
Remember when we mages called them sorry arses? It was only, like, 5 seconds ago.
I’ve got me a solution. These days I make a “table” every time I am requested to do so. They do need food, especially the healer types, and they can only take 4 charges at time, so nobody is able to ninja the whole table all at once.
I refuse, however, to let the cost of what I’m doing go ignored.

/s So far today, Euripedes has spent X gold, XX silver on Arcane Powder for Ritual of Refreshment (XX gold, XX silver lifetime expenditures).
Where the values of the amount spent is manually entered by me, based on data kept by auctioneer. At least I think it’s Auctioneer. Whatever it is, it keeps track of every single transaction I make. Hence, I can see precisely how much money is spent on Arcane Powder, and then from there, look for the massive purchases heralding a raid night, and ignoring those.
I keep precisely 20 Arcane Powder on me at all times, 60 on raid nights.
Therefore, all the purchases under 20 are covering… what? RoR in battlegrounds, that’s what. Take the number of those, multiply ’em by the cost (8 silver, 50 copper for me) and !BAM! we have the amount of gold I’ve spent on giving food to people I’ve never met before, and probably will never meet again.
Apparently I’ve spent 87 gold, 89 silver on RoR. Yikes.
The purpose of this macro is not to complain. It is not to QQ, it is not to go looking for sympathy or to get a neat way of getting out of making RoR.
Rather, it is simply a way to educate the people I’m making food for. It is a way to let them know, quickly and efficiently, that it is most certainly not free. It is to let them know, above all, that I am doing them a favour that is costing me.
Reception to this macro has been mixed.
I’ve had someone ask me “and how many tears and QQ posts does that equal?”.
Anywhere from people attempting to insult me, to a rather large chorus of “thanks” and “thank you”.
One memorable WSG had the entirety of the Horde team /thank me after I made the table.
I am also fully aware that the measly cost of RoR reagents is probably nothing compared to the costs of playing, say, a Priest or a Paladin.
Might I suggest you guys make a macro too?
