No, I’m not talking about the Shaman ability. Jeez. This is a mage blog, not some kinky totems and chain blog.
I’ve put some effort over the past few days, playing every single battleground over and over again. Spread across three different characters, I also took the time to poll people in /trade to find their thoughts on various battlegrounds. Here are the results.
Very long queue times, always in excess of a full hour, usually, an hour and a half minimum wait time. Sometimes as long as two, even three hours in the early morning server time. Invariably, when these games start, each side begins with about 20-25 people, and then fill up to the full 40 over the next ten or so minutes. Horde wins. Period. Over the 4 days I was running this and polling trade chat, there was one alliance victory. Just one. And it wasn’t even a resounding victory, alliance barely managed to scrape by. And Horde only had 20 people present, whereas the Alliance had the full 40. Everywhere else, Horde won. Horde not only won, Horde dominated. Alliance very rarely even got a single point of bonus honor, whereas Horde capped everything, got the full value of bonus honor, the whole time endlessly slaughtering the alliance as they feebly tried to hold the rampaging Horde off.
EYE OF THE STORM
Queue times vary from a minute to 5 minutes. There are three types of EotS in this battlegroup.
- The Alliance pre-made versus a Horde PuG. Random Horde players from all over will spawn in to see 15 players, all from the same server, and more often than not, from the same guild. Horde proceeds to attempt to cap a couple towers, and every horde player is dead within the first two minutes. Alliance 4-caps, farms the flag and the Horde starting area. Final score, alliance : 2000, horde : 0
- The Alliance partial pre-made, where about 6-10 of the alliance team are “pre-made”, while the rest are Pugged. Horde still loses, but we do better than normal, and can usually hold a couple towers for a while. Final score, alliance : 2000, horde : 800-14000
As an experiment, I have run several Horde pre-mades to see what happens when the Horde side is not a PuG, but a group of people who know each other, and have done raids together. Upon joining the battleground, I immediately check the Alliance roster. Every single time I’ve gone in with a Horde pre-made, we start against an Alliance pre-made. Horde side, all people from Duskwood, Alliance side, all people from this server or that server. With the exception of ONE server, the alliance pre-made leaves the battleground within seconds of seeing they’re up against a Horde pre-made. There was even one memorable occasion where an alliance pre-made from Andorhal, then Steamwheedle Cartel, then Ysera, then Dentarg all joined and left within the first 30 seconds! After that, of course, it was a Horde pre-made versus an alliance PuG, and they got rolled.
The only server to NOT leave, and actually fight pre-made versus pre-made was Black Dragonflight. Props to you guys.
(PS Black Dragonflight won)
3 minute queue times when it is the daily, about 7 or 8 when it is not. These games are even matches between Horde and Alliance, usually close matches where both sides have at least 1, usually 2 flag caps before the other scores the third. Always very tense, and usually quite fun. About half the Warsong Gulch’s, however, are still alliance pre-mades who trash the Horde like an unwanted apple. Horde are never made on Duskwood for this BG.
See Warsong Gulch. Queue times depend a lot on the daily, fluctuating 5-6 minutes from a daily day to a non-daily day. On non daily days, about half the Arathi’s are a Horde PuG versus an alliance pre-made, the other half are pre-made versus pre-made. In the latter case, its a good fight, usually fairly close, and “GG”s can be shared all around. In the former, Horde gets slaughtered, 5-capped, then graveyard farmed within the first 2-3 minutes.
Similar to EotS, when an alliance pre-made encounters a Horde pre-made, they invariably leave, then leave behind an alliance PuG that gets slaughtered.
The only way to get a daily battleground quest done is to do it in a pre-made. For example, today is the Warsong Gulch daily, and I have yet to enter a single battleground that is NOT an alliance pre-made rolling over the foolish Horde who thought they could get a quest done. There is even an alliance pre-made from Black Dragonflight, the same 10 guys, who are literally just farming the Horde PuGs trying to get the daily done. The exact same pre-made has been going for at least 6 hours now (Just encountered them now, and I first saw them 6 hours ago). This is how the battleground goes. They cap twice, then grab our flag, farm our graveyard for ~5-8 minutes, then final cap. Rinse and repeat.
And anyone who remembers last weekend when I played Arathi Basin? 44 losses in a row? Yeah, about 25 of them were pre-mades.
So there you have it. Welcome to Stormstrike, home of the alliance pre-made, where AV never happens.
Needless to say, it is extremely difficult to collect honor in this battlegroup anymore.
