Ridiculously quick post from me today.
So there’s this bug where, if you dual spec whilst leveling, the spells/abilities/etc on your offspec’s bars don’t exactly update properly when you level.
I can’t even begin to count the number of people who got called out by RankWatch for this and flushed in embarrassment. There’s been blog posts, blog comments, threads on every single WoW forum and fan forum.
But uh.
There’s a solution.
Little addon called “UpRank” that automatically scans your action bars and replaces any low rank spell with the highest level version you know. It works with Dominos just fine, so I assume it works with any bar replacement mod.
As I’ve said before, you can’t patch stupid, but there sure as hell are addons for every one of our little brainless moments.
If I still played, that would be awesome. Leveling 3 toons with dual spec was annoying as hell. Especially when I’d use a tank or healer and find out halfway through the instance I’m 2 ranks behind.
I recently learnt that I was ressing people with ridiculously low HP not because pallies suck, but because my res was 3 ranks too low -.- Installing this addon as soon as I get home (5 dual specced chars and counting.)
I was healing H. FoS & PoS on my priest and bitching about how hard it was for weeks, until somebody’s RankWatch fired up; turns out I was using spells 1 rank lower on ALL my spells ><. Things were much easier after that…
Yeah one of my guildies clued me in to this, and I keep forgetting to install (I just spam myself with Rankwatch and feel like a moron har har).
I take it, though, this won’t work with clique, macros, etc so it’s still useful to spam yourself with Rankwatch…
Since Clique takes the spell directly from the spellbook, I don’t think ranks are a problem with it.
Macros update automatically as long as you don’t include the rank of the spell in the macro. Otherwise your macros will always update even on the other spec.
They bandaid fixed this a few patches ago. Now when you train a new spell on one spec… the old spell on the other spec disappears. So when you switch specs you will see holes where the upgraded spells are.
Of course this doesn’t help people who are already 80 and isn’t a real fix but its better then before.
This goes in the same category as AspectWatch, sometimes you just have brainless moments and they cost you serious DPS. Good find, Euripedes.
I ended up turning off rankwatch on my druid as he levels, I tend to farm the latter 5 level levels of any given increment of 10 in battlegrounds, and it just ends up going crazy.
That looks very handy – thanks
It’s nice to know there’s a fix for it, even if it will only be useful until Cataclysm is released.
I had no idea the bug existed until some guy in a random PuG with RW nailed me on like 6 different spells. I actually thanked the guy for using it since I didn’t know it could happen.
