Blizzard has made great strides to create a better place for mages. While avoiding any large or sweeping changes, many smaller changes have been made in efforts to equalize mages.
Not make them better, you understand, but to simply smooth out a couple rough edges, only one of which mages actually wanted smoothed.
Of course, such smoothing always has unintended consequences. In this case, every mage who actually purchased rank 2 and 3 of Molten Armor has been flat out robbed of 30 gold.
I don’t have a problem with gold dumps. They are a necessary part of the WoW economy, and serve rather well to prevent horrifying inflation, especially things that the community inexplicably treats as mandatory, like the epic flying skill.
What confuses me, however, is where the line between dampening the economy and outright robbing your players is drawn.
There are very few mandatory gold dumps, and all of them have some benefit to them. Hunters need ammo so they can continue to actually function as a class. Mages need to buy spell reagents, so they can enjoy ridiculously fast transport to wherever they want to go. Everyone needs to repair their gear to prevent themselves from having broken gear and thus becoming completely useless. (more…)
