I was attempting to have this very conversation with someone the other day, with a slight twist. I say attempt because it invariable turns into me ranting.

It looks like with the release of 3.0.8 druids will no longer have to quest to get aquatic form, it will be trainable. Paladins already don't have to quest for their mounts. What next? Paladins not having to quest to learn Redemption? (see tangent below)

In an effort to speed up leveling so that we and all our friends that we drag into the game may enjoy end-game sooner, Blizzard seems to be developing a trend of removing class-specific quests.

Yes, they are a pain and yes, they are time consuming. But they are badges of honor and the things that make leveling a mage different than leveling a druid different than leveling a warrior. Pretty soon, we'll all have access to the same exact quests and you'll be able to level any class in your sleep because there isn't anything to set it apart from the others.

/end rant

Related tangent: I started as Alliance and one of my first toons was a dwarf pally. Learning Redemption was a well thought-out quest, complete with story - go resurrect the guy that sacrificed himself to save his friend. Very noble, if a little sappy and predictable.
Later, roll a blood elf pally. Get Redemption quest: go out to this cave and meditate. Member of my own order is sent to attack me and I kill him in self defense. Return to trainer, "WTF was up with that?!" Simply a demonstration of the loyalty and dedication we require, now go leech some energy off some poor saps downstairs and resurrect the guy you killed.
It was awesome to see (and play) the difference in how both races deal with their use and abuse of the Light; really helps set the tone for the characters.

Yes, exactly. Warlocks & paladins even have class-specific mounts they have to quest for (at least they did back in the day, not sure now).

Mages are epic; we're why Dalaran exists. I think it's great that our class is the only one that has class trainers there. Mages are so important to the WoW lore that I think we've been overlooked a lot in this regard. Great post!

Something similar to the first aid quest at 225 but for holy priests or other healing classes could be good. Escorting a party of 4 that all take different amounts of damage at different rates and trying to keep them alive. Good training for instances / raids too.

I would really love to have an epic "Prove you know how to play your class" Mage quest.

It would have different phases which test your abilities as a Mage.

You would have to know how to crowd control, kite, escape situations, interrupt spells, steal buffs, aoe, and burst damage like a champ.

The reward should be something that people can see visually and be like, "this person knows hows to play his class".

Ya missed a great one...

back in the day... there was only one way for rogues to level lockpicking... you couldn't get skill checks offa trade, and there were no footlockers lying around all over the place... so you had to run SM, over and over again, stealthing through, and picking every locked door in the place (as well as few chests...)

A coupla doors required you to solo two elites.

So when people in trade chat started begging for someone to open their boxes... only the TRUE masters of stealth could step forward.

My rogue was the second one on my server to get her skill high enough to pick thorium :) And I charged out the wazoo for the service!

I miss that. Yuir right, it really would be nice to have more class (AND RACE) specific plot lines/quests. Another gripe... all those chars that were 60 when TBC hit have crap all for rep quests with the new races... how about a coupla quest lines where, say, thrall or the dark lady send "champions of the horde" to investigate/negotiate with the Belfs, and sumpin similar with the Alliance and the space goats...

As things stand now, Ima grinding Silvermoon rep in AV via the turn in quests...

I like the class-specific quest idea, Rip. It's a shame only half of the classes have one.

I was at level 50-ish when Burning Crusade came out. My only goal was to get to Outlands and get to 70. I did, of course.

I never did the epic bow quest line. I did not care about level 60 content. I am now WAY over-powered for this quest line. It is a regret that can not be remedied.

I want a level 70 Prove-you-know-your-shit quest!

I think what your saying in having quests or some specific sets of quests which can be class specific or that defines a class would be nice and interesting. It would not only give a sense of class uniqueness but a way to test the player one on one with their class ability throughout the game.

Would be nice if their was more of it in the game. Takes some really good quest designs to accomplish that. Quests where a hunter can prove him self with all his skill set up to a certain level and be rewarded with something unique. Especially if such a quest resets if you are being aided by a friend or another player. Such quests will feel epic to whatever class with uniqueness. Because if you eventually completed the quest. Other will as you stated know your stuff to some degree to have earned the reward. That is in vast contrast to a player getting baby walked from 1-70 and being run through an instance all the way to 70 and be a total noob at their class and still not know how to play.

You can repeat quests like that for each class in different ways with unique class specific rewards. It would be interesting to see a bit of quests like that. Would seem like epic quests. I do get the point of what your saying. Sending a Rogue on a quest to do what Rogues love to take someone out with specific conditions would be fun. Would involve some thinking to do vs just go here and get X. Why we don't have more quests like that not sure. Yet if we had more quests like that Im sure some people will complain "its too hard to do" "I can't get my quest done". "Would you please help me do my quest". WoW is on eazy mode.
